Abstract
“The dead”: an approach to the motive of death through the time, the space and the characters in the Cata´s short novel.
Alfonso Hernandez Catá is one of the more prestigious and well known writers of the First Cuban Republican Generation. His work combine characteristics of the 98th spanish generation and the hispano-american modernism. Many of the questions on his book “The sour fruits”, composed of the short novels “The deads”, “The labyrinth” and “The skin”, revolve around the loss of values in modern society. In “The deads”, the present work analyses the existent relation among the characters, the motive of death and the construction of a space-time that questions the modern men’s needs. Also, it is perceived, in the almost expressionist tone of the narrative, the projection of the reality as a big cyclic gear that prevents the human being from modifying it.
